Featured Brewery: Thirsty Monk
Since opening in Downtown Asheville in 2008, Thirsty Monk has expanded to include two additional neighborhood pubs on the south and north sides of town. In 2013, The Thirsty Monk brand grew to include Top of the Monk, named one of the best pre-Prohibition era craft cocktail bars. Thirsty Monk strives to provide the area’s most expansive, unique and rare craft beer selection. Under the Thirsty Monk Brewery moniker, the brewery has created a wide array of Belgian-style beers. Award-winning Brewmaster Norm Penn always has several batches in progress for your drinking pleasure, and Thirsty Monk house beers can be found on tap at all Asheville locations.
Beers to try:
- Belgian Coconorm - Coconorm is a robust porter brewed with a fusion of dark malts and lightly toasted organic coconut.
- Cherry Gose - The base is a tart German wheat beer brewed with pilsner malts, coriander and an addition of Mediterranean sea salt. The bold addition of cherry both enhances and compliments its pleasantly tart profile.
- Monk in Black Belgian Stout - A mysterious monk seeks to give a Belgian tradition an English twist by the use of a Belgian yeast strain in a stout. The result is a medium-bodied brew with hints of clove and fruit, emerging from a dark blend of chocolate, roast and nuttiness.
