Featured Brewery: Catawba Brewing Co.
Catawba Brewing Co.'s first brewery opened in Glen Alpine, NC in an old furniture factory in 1998. The company has since grown to house a brewing facility in Morganton and a second and third tasting rooms in Biltmore Village and South Slope in Asheville. The latter location boasts a barrel room with 5-6 barrel aged beers on tap. Known for its tasty White Zombie White Ale and Farmer Ted's Cream Ale, Catawba is also known for pushing the limits and coming up with creative brews like the Peanut Butter Jelly Time Ale and the Le Sexxxy Saison.
Beers to try:
- Farmer Ted Cream Ale - This beer is an indigenous American beer style created as an answer to post-prohibition German lagers. It pays tribute to the beers made on early, rustic systems by using natural ingredients like corn and barley to create a smooth and full-bodied, straw-colored ale. Reward yourself with a Farmer Ted’s after a long day plowing the fields, or just after mowing the lawn!
- White Zombie White Ale - This beer was originally created as a Halloween seasonal brew. But its refreshing taste makes it a year round staple. Zombie is made according to the Belgian Witbier tradition of using unmalted wheat to create the light body and white sheen. Additions of coriander and orange peel give Zombie a fruity and spicy character, while the hops are subtle and lightly detected. Don’t be scared to blow the head off a Zombie and drink up!
- Mother Trucker Pale Ale - This hoppy pale ale, is as American as Interstate-40 and proud of it! Catawba uses three different American hop varieties to create a dry, quaffable brew with pine, earth, and a truck load of citrus aromas. Mother Trucker’s sturdy malt backbone provides the perfect roadway for the hops’ journey to your taste buds.
